I just get overwhelmed sometimes.

I’m not sure why I can’t let things go. I get a thought in my head and I can’t stop thinking about it. My mind is determined to figure out every angle and every possibility. I make more of what people say than is probably there.

I try so hard with my family. They don’t understand how much I sacrifice for them. And yet, it never seems to be enough.

I feel so alone in my thoughts. I’m constantly stressing about something and I don’t know how to change that. Something has to change soon.

Relationships and Me don’t mix.

Ann wants a relationship, but every time she starts to get close to someone, it feels uncomfortable and unsafe. Either she doesn’t feel good enough or it seems like he does something or says something that sets her off. Result? She pushes him away or he leaves.

Ann is afraid of being alone the rest of her life. How can she change this?

Tim and his wife have kids from previous relationships.

They know they should be on the same page when raising them, but it’s hard because they don’t always see it the same way. Tim is used to being in charge and well-respected. He comes home to his family, and it’s a different story. He tries to do his best with his step-kids, but he and his wife just continue to fight.

Tim worries about whether his marriage will survive all this fighting.

How do I find my way through this?

If you’ve already tried thinking your way through it or trying to make yourself “feel bad all the time,” how has that worked for you so far? The answers often go beyond “how smart we are” and giving ourselves a constant guilt trip about everything.

Positive change can happen when people have the courage to face “the stuff in their basement” and address patterns of thinking that have held them back up to this point.

Sometimes, not knowing what life looks like on the other side of healing can keep us from even trying. Why get your hopes up, only to be beaten down once again?

It might feel easier to stay with what you know, but maybe if you are able to take this bold step, you can make a better life for you and your loved ones. There is healing and happiness on the other side of therapy done right.

Hello, I’m Robert G. Brown, LPC, MDiv, and EMDR Certified

When you think about going to therapy, do you feel a part of you trying to say “No, you don’t need it?” “It won’t change anything!” That same conversation happens in most people’s minds.

How many times do we have “an argument” going on inside of our head? We think about doing something productive and positive, but then we talk ourselves out of it.

Truth is, for every part of us that wants to improve ourselves, there’s another part that has reasons not to try. The type of therapy I do gives new explanation to that conversation in your head and can help you move toward better decision-making in your life.
